ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels saw more personal success at this weekends' Emory Thrills in the Hills meet. Â
"As the meet continued, I think the team started to realize that they can hold their own with worldclass talent," said head coach Neil Young. "This meet also had many professionals opening their outdoor campaigns on the way to competing at the world championships for their respective countries."
Men's Highlights
- Freshman Jordan McQueen took fifth place in the long jump with a mark of 6.71m, and 10th in the triple jump with a 12.94m mark. McQueen also took 13th place in the 100m qualifier, recording a personal record time of 11.50. Â
- Zachary Benner placed 32nd in the 1500m with a time of 4:19. Andrew Farber took 33rd, just a few milliseconds behind Benner. Patrick Smith was also on their heels taking 35th, all three recording new PR times.Â
"Jordan made it into the finals for the long jump as we concentrate on improving his speed on the runway," said Young, " and the first men's 4x4 surprised me—the guys gave us a solid base to work with."
Women's Highlights
"Ashley is a newcomer to the sport and ran a good 200 meter sprint," added Young on the women. "Hannah and Riley also are maintaining consistency in their races. Overall, I think the 100's and 1500's did well, as we have to maintain our theme of speed on both the men's and women's sides."
