WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—A pair of wins and several personal bests highlighted the Oglethorpe track & field teams' outing at Flat is Fast hosted by JDL FastTrack Sunday afternoon. Ashton Deriso returned to form after battling through injury at the end of cross country season and start of track & field season while several other Stormy Petrels posted notable performances.
Men's Results
- Wins went to Deriso (1000 meters) and Deriso, Zachary Benner, Stephen Graffius and Beck James (4x800 meter relay).
- Deriso's winning time in the 1k was 2:36.61 while Graffius (fourth/2:39.04), James (sixth/2:41.99) and Anthony Arredondo (ninth/2:44.91) followed shortly after in the event.
- Benner added a personal best fourth-place finish in the 3k with a time of 9:01.92.
- Anthony Bonds ran a personal best in the 60 meters, finishing fourth.
- Rainey Morris, coming off setting the Oglethorpe high jump record of 1.90 meters his last time out, took fifth in the event Sunday.
Women's Results
- All five Petrels who competed finished in the top 10 in their event.
- Riley Michaud, Hannah Rhodes, Elina Malancea and Alex Swanson posted the top finish with a podium finish of third in the 4x800 meter relay.
- Michaud (sixth), Malancea (seventh), and Swanson (ninth) followed soon after with top-10 marks in the 1000 meters.
- Hailey Wright took sixth in the high jump.
Up Next
Oglethorpe will have a couple weeks off before returning to action at the Samford Bulldog Open on Saturday, Feb. 10. It will be the final tune-up prior to the Southern Athletic Association Indoor Championships (Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24), followed shortly by the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships (March 8-9).
After that, the Stormy Petrels will turn their attention to outdoor season which will culminate with the SAA Outdoor Championships Friday-Saturday, April 26-27, and NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships (May 23-26).
