Men’s soccer heading west for NCAA Championship

ATLANTA—The bracket is set, and Oglethorpe will head to the Rocky Mountains for the opening stage of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship this weekend, making its second straight appearance on the national stage.

Oglethorpe's first-round match-up is set against Claremont Mudd Scripps in Colorado Springs, Colorado. No. 5 Colorado College is the host.

The winner of the Oglethorpe-CMS game will face the winner of the Colorado College-Pacific Lutheran game on Sunday.

Schedule Information

  • Round of 64 Game: Saturday, Nov. 16, at 3:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. MT
  • Round of 32 Game: If Oglethorpe wins Saturday, the next game would be Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m. ET/1 p.m. MT
  • If Oglethorpe wins both games in Colorado, the Petrels would advance to the sectionals of the NCAA Championship, set for the following weekend. Times and locations of the sectionals will be announced following the Round of 32 games.

Oglethorpe History at the NCAA Championship

  • This is the fifth time Oglethorpe has qualified for the NCAA Championship (2011, 2017, 2019, 2023, 2024).
  • Last year saw the Stormy Petrels suffer a 3-2 loss to then-No. 16 Colorado College in the Round of 64. The game took place at Emory in Atlanta.
  • Oglethorpe advanced to the Round of 32 in 2017.

Oglethorpe this Season

  • Oglethorpe heads to the NCAA Championship with a 9-2-6 record after finishing the regular season campaign 3-1-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.
  • The team went to the conference tournament as the two seed and outscored opponents 6-1, the only goal against coming from an own goal.
  • Oglethorpe knocked out regular season champion Rhodes 1-0 in 2OT in Sunday's SAA championship game. It marked Oglethorpe's ninth shutout this season.
  • Both the semifinal and final went to overtime where Oglethorpe scored golden goals to advance each time.
  • Adrian Levy earned tournament MVP and was named to the all-tournament team alongside Steven Johnson-Fikula and Nicolas Sciarra.
  • Levy and Daniel Amah were offensive and defensive players of the year in the conference, respectively.
  • Levy, Amah and Ben Alram made the all-conference first team while AJ Evans, Dylan Bapst, Johnson-Fikula, JP Devine, Sciarra and JR Cozine made all-conference second team.

Claremont Mudd Scripps this Season

  • CMS (14-3-3, 8-3-1 SCIAC) finished runner-up in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season but won the conference tournament with a 5-1 win over Chapman in the final.
  • The last time the Stags earned a bid to the NCAA Championship, they captured the regional title at Trinity (Texas) in 2019 to advance to the Round of 16.
  • Oglethorpe and CMS have faced only twice in history. Oglethorpe won the first meeting 2-1 in 2019 in a neutral game at Emory. CMS won the most recent meeting 4-1 in a home game in 2021.
