ATLANTA—Oglethorpe senior Owen VanMarter has been named Southern Athletic Association men's soccer offensive athlete of the week, announced the league office Monday afternoon. The nod marks the first of his career for VanMarter, who had three goals and an assist in three games over the seven-day period.
VanMarter started the week with a strong effort against Huntingdon, getting the assist on the game-tying goal and scoring to make it 3-1 in what would be a 4-1 win. The very next game, VanMarter scored the first two goals of a 3-0 win in Oglethorpe's John P. Salamone Invitational.
VanMarter, a senior from Hilton Head, South Carolina, is up to four goals through five games this season, tied for the SAA lead.
The Stormy Petrels are back in action Wednesday for a neutral contest against Belhaven in Birmingham, Alabama. The next home game is set for Sunday against Babson.
