ATLANTA- Oglethorpe senior forward Keimarya Rivera earned her third Southern Athletic Association recognition of the season after achieving a career milestone and leading the Stormy Petrels to a third consecutive conference victory last week. Rivera also helped the Petrels hand the undefeated Centre Colonels their first SAA loss of the season.
On Friday against Sewanee, the Petrels dominated the Tigers with the offense led by Rivera. She tallied 22 points and reached her 1500th career point. She also led the team on the glass with eight rebounds and picked up one steal to end the game with a 78-57 victory.
Rivera and the Stormy Petrels blew past the previously undefeated Colonels on Sunday in a defining 90-66 win. Recording her sixth double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Rivera's strong defense and scoring presence in the lane was vital to Oglethorpe beating Centre for the first time in eight matchups.
After a recent schedule change due to the incoming winter weather over the weekend, Oglethorpe will travel to Rome, Georgia, to face Berry on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. They will be back in Dorough Field House on Friday, Jan. 30, to host Rhodes.
