ATLANTA—Oglethorpe sophomore goalkeeper Sebastian Lewis has been named Southern Athletic Association offensive athlete of the week after his late game-winning goal lifted the Stormy Petrels to an SAA victory last week. The SAA office made the announcement Monday for the week ending October 4.
This marked the second time Lewis won the weekly award, both this season and in his career.
Lewis posted his fourth shutout of the year on the defensive end Sunday in a conference win, but it was his heroics in delivering a late penalty on the offensive end that made the difference. With under five minutes to go in a scoreless deadlock that was marred by rain and a 30-minute lightning delay, Lewis stepped to the penalty spot in the middle of the downpour and scored the first goal of his career to send the Petrels to victory.
Lewis conceded just one goal in the midweek road game on Wednesday before bouncing back to help the Petrels get the win on Sunday, posting six saves and his fourth shutout of the year.Â
Lewis and the Petrels are on the road this weekend, taking on Millsaps on Friday and Rhodes on Sunday.
