Box Score The Oglethorpe women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half at Salamone Field Tuesday night en route to a 5-1 victory over visiting Huntingdon.
The Petrels led 1-0 at halftime after a 10th minute goal from midfielder Lexie Craig, her first of the year. The goal came on a shot from distance in front of the goal that sailed over the head of the Huntingdon goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
In the second half, the Petrels expoded offensively with a flurry of goals in a 10-minute span stretching from the 50th to the 60th minutes. Midfielder Claire Stauber gave the Petrels the lead in the 53rd minute after receiveing a pass from defender Katie Muller and firing a shot from the top of the box that ricocheted off a Huntingdon defender and into the net.
Then just two minutes later, forward Clara St. Urbain made a long run down the right-hand side of the field, dribbled in on goal and fired a shot past the Hawks goalkeeper. Her fifth goal of the season expanded the Oglethorpe lead to 3-0.
Huntingdon got a goal back off a Petrel giveaway just a minute later, but three minutes after that, Stauber was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. She converted the opportunity, her second goal of the game and sixth of the season, and gave the Petrels a 4-1 lead.
The high-paced action continued just a minute later, when forward Beatrice Menjor, just named last week's SAA Offensive Player of the Week, took a long through-ball down the center of the field from midfielder Aubrie Provence and deposited it in the back of the net for her sixth goal of the campaign, accounting for the final 5-1 scoreline.
The Petrels outshot the Hawks 24-4 on the afternoon, including 17-2 in shots on goal. The Petrels attempted seven corner kicks while Huntingdon attempted none.
The 5-3 Stormy Petrels begin SAA play this weekend, when they travel to Tennessee to take on Sewanee on Saturday at 2 p.m. Eastern. They then return home against Tennessee Temple next Tuesday.
