Dr. Rebecca “Becky” Ellis was the first women’s basketball player to score over 1,000 points and maintains several other school records. She served as a co-captain during her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.

In her time at Oglethorpe, Ellis was a three-time All-SCAC honorable mention and an All-SCAC second team honoree. Becky Ellis was the highest scoring freshman of the 1993-94 season, and now stands in the top ten scoring averages for a single season and for career. She is in the top ten for career assists, totaling 225. Ellis holds a top ten spot for steals in a single season and has the fourth highest career total with 174. She holds two of the top ten spots for steals per game in a single season, and holds the second highest number of steals per game in a career. Ellis is in the top ten for steals in a single season, and holds a spot in the top five for career steals. She is also in the top ten for free-throws and free-throw percentages in a career.

Ellis was also a member of the tennis team and was named Outstanding Female Athlete at graduation. She was named an All-SCAC Honorable Mention in 1994, 1995, and 1996, and All-SCAC Second Team in 1997.

Ellis currently serves in the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University. She earned her PhD in philosophy from the University of Florida.
