Tim Ernst was born and raised around the corner from Oglethorpe by his parents John and Suzanne. He is the youngest of three siblings along with his brother John (Jay), Jr. and sister Elizabeth. He fondly remembers riding his bike up to Oglethorpe and watching the baseball team practice as a kid. As Tim grew up, he played multiple sports but baseball was always his passion.
Tim graduated high school from The Galloway School, where during his last two years, baseball was played on the Oglethorpe campus.
After conversations with old “traveling team” teammates who were enrolled at Oglethorpe, Tim transferred to Oglethorpe during his sophomore year, and hoped to join the baseball team, despite not having thrown a ball in over a year. He spent the next four years playing centerfield and batting leadoff. Upon graduation, Tim was a 4 four time All-Conference team, All South Region honoree, and was the 2007 Oglethorpe Male Athlete of the Year. Today, Tim still holds Oglethorpe Baseball records, most notably: Career Hits (223), Career Runs Scored (150), Career Triples (14), Career Total Bases (311), Single Season Batting Average (.464), Singles Season Triples (7). He credits his coach, Dan Giordano, for seeing his full potential, bringing out his best performances and setting him up for success in life.
Tim loved his time at Oglethorpe outside of baseball as well. Particularly, he appreciated the comradery of the small campus and excellent individualized approach to learning. He made lifelong friends, learned critical thinking skills and gained a deeper appreciation of a well-rounded life. Tim graduated with a degree in History.
Despite working full time in the insurance industry after graduation, he could still be seen on the Oglethorpe baseball diamond as an assistant coach for three seasons. Currently, he is a Customer Service Training Manager at the information management company Iron Mountain. Tim still lives close by in Chamblee, with his lovely wife of four years, Bobbi. They are expecting their first child, a daughter, at the end of August.
Tim congratulates the other inductees and is thrilled to share this honor with them. Tim would also like to thank his family, all of his coaches, teammates, and great friends from Oglethorpe for all of the advice encouragement and support given over the years.
