L. Perrin Walker Jr. was an Olympic level athlete, and one of Oglethorpe's first track stars.
On July 11th, 1936 Walker, representing Georgia Tech, competed alongside Jesse Owens in the FOT 100m, a qualifying race for the Olympics. He finished sixth in heat 2, therefore not qualifying for the Berlin games. He also finished fourth in the 200m, seconds behind Owens and just missing qualification.Â
His best known recorded time was 9.6 in 100m at the Penn State relays in 1933. After Oglethorpe and Georgia Tech he continued to compete in the USA Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), traveling the globe.Â
