Timothy “Tim” Crowley was a star baseball player who also excelled in the classroom, and was highly regarded by his peers and teachers.

In 1997 Crowley was ranked 14th in NCAA Division III for RBIs. He currently holds the school record for RBIs in a single season, totaling 52 that same year. His senior season also boasted a .434 batting average, ranking 62nd in NCAA Division III. Crowley still holds one of the highest career batting averages and RBIs in school history. He was also nationally ranked 9th for doubles, with Oglethorpe ranked 23rd for batting that season.
Crowley was named the 1997 SCAC Player of the Year, All-SCAC team honoree, a GTE Academic All-American, and Oglethorpe’s most outstanding male athlete. He was named an All-SCAC honorable mention in 1994 and 1996, and to the All-SCAC team in 1995.
Crowley was the third player in the program’s NCAA era to throw a no-hitter, and another was not recorded until 2018.

Crowley passed away at age 2 on April 12th, 1997 after a car accident. His number 17 was retired by Coach Bill Popp at the memorial service days later. The last game he played in on April 8th, 1997 resulted in a 7-4 victory over Emory, thanks to a homerun from Crowley.

His home of Sachem, New York annually awards the Tim Crowley memorial scholarship to two baseball players from either North or East Sachem High School following the tournament also named in Crowley’s memory.
