Katie Dale ‘10 grew up in a suburb close to the Atlanta area; so she didn’t imagine that she’d go to college “just up the road”. Like many, she wanted to explore what was out there farther from home. As it turns out, she did both at Oglethorpe. She was fortunate enough to meet Jim Owen, be recruited to the OU women’s golf team, and then have a wonderfully rich and well-rounded college experience. She got to do something she loves and enjoy many aspects of college life and education including travel and study abroad.
Golf was a huge part of Katie’s time at OU. She had an amazing team of women who provided a network of support and a phenomenal coach who truly brought out the best in her. The athletic program not only encouraged maintaining good academics, but it respected and celebrated excellent academic performance. With studies high on her priority list, she was also member of ODK, the honors fraternity. Another big part of her time at Oglethorpe was Greek life as an involved member of Sigma Sigma Sigma.
One of the most wonderful things about her education at Oglethorpe was being encouraged to think outside the box, see possibilities and create something that was right for her. Katie knew that she wanted to pursue medical illustration as her career path so she was able to tailor her courses to that path. With the help of her advisor and art professor, she created a major that would focus on the required coursework for those Masters programs. Katie graduated Oglethorpe with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Biology.
After Oglethorpe, Katie went on to get her Masters of Science in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, one of four accredited programs in North America. Shortly after graduating from MCG, she accepted a job with an illustration company in Richmond, Va doing medical legal illustration and marketing. While doing freelance illustration work, she switched gears and started working for Luluelmon and connecting with her community through yoga, fitness, and mindfulness. Along the way, Katie started teaching fitness classes that focus on low impact and high intensity. After suffering a major back injury, lower impact workouts have been crucial in her life and it has become important to bring this type of movement to others. Katie fell in love with a more active lifestyle and hasn’t looked back. In 2021, Katie opened her own Pilates studio in Charlottesville, Va. She is the owner/founder of HI // low Charlottesville- a Pilates strength training studio in the heart of downtown. She also has a mini poodle; he's a rescue and his name is Norman (named after her grandfather). He is the HI // low studio pup and goes with her pretty much everywhere. She also loves getting back to Atlanta to visit her friends and family.
