George L. Hooks was a tri-sport athlete, and excellent representation of a Petrel.

He was signed to the Cleveland Indians right after graduation and was assigned to the Flint Gems of the Class C Michigan State League. Hooks made 23 appearances for the Gems and was 7-7 with a 4.98 ERA.

Hooks served as a Corporal in the US Army during World War II, and was wounded in action in 1943 after enemy bombing. He spent 7 months in the hospital and was medically discharged in March of 1944 and received a Purple Heart.

After his service, Hooks played with the Baltimore Orioles for five years. He was one fo their main starters in 1945 and was 10-13 with a 4.48 ERA. In seven minor league seasons overall, Hooks pitched 198 games with a 36-42 won-loss record and 4.76 ERA.

Hooks was born on February 24, 1917 in Americus, Georgia and passed away aged 75 on April 2, 1992.
