Kenneth “Nutty” Campbell was highly involved on campus at Oglethorpe, but is best known for being a star quarterback and recording one of the greatest moments in the school’s athletics history. He was the football team captain for the 1926 season

On September 25, 1926, after a stellar touchdown from teammate Cy Bell, Campbell scored the extra point to defeat Georgia Tech 7-6. Tech was a major rival at the time, and this was Oglethorpe’s first victory over the Yellow Jackets. Bell and Campbell’s teamwork has been cited as one of the most exciting upsets in southern college football.

Campbell also played on the baseball team in 1923 and the basketball team in 1926. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, The O Club, Lords Club, Boar’s Head Club, Sigma Lambda Literary Society, and the Fraternity Representative Student Faculty Committee. Campbell was vice-president of his freshman and sophomore classes (1923 and 1924).

After graduation, Campbell served Oglethorpe as an assistant football coach from 1928 through 1931.
