David Mueller graduated magna cum laude from Oglethorpe University in 2007 where he was honored to receive the Sydney Lanier Prize. The highlights of his athletic career include 4-time All Conference, SCAC Newcomer of the Year and All-American. David’s freshman year was the second year for Coach Jon Akin. He was proud to graduate as the program’s first All-American and the winningest class in Stormy Petrel history. However, he is even prouder now to say he is no longer the sole All-American, and no longer a member of the program’s winningest class. Watching and rooting from afar, David knows that he speaks for so many of Coach Akin’s earliest players when he says that it’s a joy to see the program continue to grow and achieve what he and his teammates sought out over ten years ago.
David received his J.D. from George Washington University in 2012. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar that same year. He is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. David is currently a Federal and State Criminal Defense Attorney in St. Louis, MO.
David thanks his parents Charlie and Ruth. He also thanks his coaches and teammates, but especially the following: Coach Akin who brought him to Atlanta and helped him fight to afford his amazing education; Jonny McConnell, his roommate; Erik Horne who, more than most, demanded David’s best; Russell Kramer for convincing him to slow down and perhaps enjoy a bounce or two; and Mike Muller for reminding him to enjoy winning as much as he despised losing.
Finally, David thanks his wife, Jillian, who dragged him through law school and has been an amazing mother to their children, Marjorie and William. He is thankful to Oglethorpe for helping him attain what he has always wanted from life. His professional, emotional, and social achievements are a direct benefit from of his liberally artistic education. And his experience with this soccer team is absolutely inseparable from that education.
