Oglethorpe University

Charles "Happy" Monroe Vance received an A.B. in Physical Education. He was an All-American Catcher in his four years at Oglethorpe.

He was also a member of the “O” Club. Vance became a catcher for the Atlanta Crackers, was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a Mason. 

Vance was born September 1st, 1907 in Heard County, Ga. He married Lucille "Mittie" Ruth James and they had two sons plus two daughters, and later 16 grandchildren. One of his sons, Charles Jr., also attended Oglethorpe and his granddaughter Katie ran track and cross-country at Georgia Tech. Vance Sr. passed away on June 2nd,1980 in East Point, Ga.
