Homer Clyde “Chess” Chestnutt was a varsity football player.

Chestnutt’s shining moment was kicking a field goal that resulted in victory over Florida in 1918. The 1920 Yamacraw described him as “a good snatcher of forward passes and his goal kicking is excellent.”

Chestnutt was president of his sophomore class and a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After graduation, he coached the junior varsity baseball team.
