Ryan was born and raised in Marietta, Ga. He is the son of Ann and the late Sean Meehan. Ryan is also lucky to boast two older sisters, Kimberly and Jennifer, who always ensured that his humility was never in question. His dad introduced him to the game of baseball at the age of four, which was the start of a long and memory-filled journey. Ryan played for the prestigious East Cobb Baseball summer program where he was a member of the Junior Olympic Champion East Cobb Astros as a 16-year-old. He attended St. Pius X Catholic High School where he was named All County his junior and senior years and helped lead the Golden Lions to the state playoffs.

During his career at Oglethorpe, Ryan started every single game he played during his college career. He was selected First Team All Conference as a freshman (3B), junior (SS) and senior (SS) and Honorable Mention All-Conference as a sophomore (2B). Ryan was named Oglethorpe Rookie of the Year in 2000 and Team MVP in both 2001 and 2003. He helped lead the Petrels to the SCAC East Championship in 2002 and is currently second in SCAC history in career saves (15). Ryan currently holds the Oglethorpe career record for saves (15) and assists (456) and is second in career hits (191). In addition, Ryan ranks in the top six in doubles, triples, stolen bases, runs scored, total bases, lowest ERA, games finished, at bats, games played and double plays turned. He was selected captain by his teammates his junior and senior years while also serving as the Founder and President of the prestigious Big Dern Fan Club.

Off the field, Ryan earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting in 2003. After several years in the public accounting field, Ryan transitioned into commercial real estate. He worked for Atlanta based Carter for the past six years as a Senior Asset Manager in its Investments group. In January 2013, Ryan accepted a position with the Situs Companies where he focuses on underwriting commercial real estate debt for third-party clients. He currently resides in the Virginia Highlands area of Atlanta with his wife, Ashley. Ryan would like to thank his parents for their unconditional support throughout his career as a student athlete. Ryan's dad passed away the summer before his freshmen year, but he was never far away. His mom was a constant presence at OU games, something for which Ryan will be forever grateful.

Ryan would also like to thank Coach Bill Popp for providing him with an opportunity to play college baseball. Whether it was breaking out his 10 pitch repertoire or blasting fungos at warp speed, Coach Popp always made things fun and had the guys best interests at heart. In addition, Ryan would also like to thank his teammates and friends who made his OU experience what it was...good times. They had a close knit group that truly had fun together on and off the field, and their friendship is something that Ryan will always cherish. Special Big Derns go out to Tuck, Stank, Hooner, Dukes, Breit, Bloody, Doc, Monty, Don, Britter, Chaddy, Johnny Bravo, Mags, Welch, Gio, Bing, Eck, Big Dern, Bear, Golden, Brock, R-Dub and Sweet Lou. Last but not least, Ryan would like to dedicate this honor to the memory of his father, Sean Meehan, as well as Josh Blythe. Josh was an integral part of the Oglethorpe baseball core mentioned above and was one of Ryan’s best friends. Josh passed away in 2008.
