Glen “Bot” Owens was an all-around Stormy Petrel, gifted in basketball, baseball, and football. 
 
Owens played all 60 minutes in 26 out of 27 football games Oglethorpe played over his four years. He was nicknamed “Iron Man” on the field. In his junior year Owens was student body president and received Oglethorpe’s first ever MVP award. During his senior year Owens was a line coach for Oglethorpe’s football team and head coach of the freshman baseball team. He was a member of the O Club, the Uglies Club, and Alpha Lamda Tau fraternity. 
 
After graduating, Owens worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Marietta, GA. During World War II he joined the Navy and served as a physical fitness instructor. After the war, he returned to Coca-Cola in Marietta as a manager until 1953. He and his wife Maragret opened Owens Flower Shop in their basement, and the family business has continued to grow. 
Owens was born in Newnan, GA in 1913 and attended Newnan High School. In 2003 he became an inaugural member of the Coweta County Athletic Hall of Fame. Outside of athletics, Owens had a passion for gardening and botany. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Rotary Club, and a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Marrietta.  He and Margaret were married for 64 years and had two daughter and one son, plus five grandchildren. Owens passed away on March 7th, 2005 at the age of 92.
