Joyce Ann Gravel Pettus was captain of the women’s rifle team and an extremely skilled marksman.

Gravel was the 1962 Southeastern Marksmanship champion. She was also named to the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.

Gravel was a secretary for the student council, secretary of her freshman and junior class, the 1960 Homecoming Queen, and a student librarian. She was a member of the Players Club, the Stormy Petrel Newspaper, the yearbook staff, the Newman Club, the Public Relations club, All Faiths Fellowship, the Assembly Committee, and the Yamacraw Gun Club.

Gravel married after college, and is currently a historian for Holy Spirit Catholic Church in her hometown of Lake Wales, Florida.
