John Patrick Salamone graduated from Oglethorpe with a degree in Business Administration and from Fordham University with an MBA.
As a student at Oglethorpe, he served as team captain and was named to the All-District and All-South teams multiple times. He was also a leader of the "Poor Boys" intramural team.
Former Coach Bucky Reynolds called him “The finest soccer player I ever coached.”
Salamone worked as a broker for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104
th floor of Tower One of the World Trade Center and was killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks.
In October of 2002, the upper residential quad's soccer field was named in his honor. Additionally, Oglethorpe hosts the Salamone Alumni Soccer Tournament as part of Alumni Weekend to raise funds for the John P. Salamone Endowed Scholarship for students exemplifying his spirit.
The Salamone Foundation awards an annual scholarship to a graduate of West Essex Regional High School. The foundation also made two grants to two West Essex area elementary schools in 2004.
John was born January 25th, 1964 in Fort Hood, Texas. He and his wife Mary Ellen had three children: Alexander, Aiden, and Anna. John coached their little league games and delighted in teaching them about every sport he could.
