Woodisde “Woody” Hoblitzell IV was a star on Oglethorpe’s tennis team rather early in the program.

He was a member of the USTA Southern Tennis group and was named the 35 and Older Male Player of the Year in the 1980. He and his partner Jan Collins were ranked No.1 for mixed doubles that same year. The Georgia Professional Tennis Association has two annual awards named after him.

Later in life, Hoblitzell owned 11 horses and the Bruce Aldrich Stable, including Tennis Champ who he drove in chariot-style races.

Hoblitzell had two sons and two gradchildren and passed away at age 70 on January 6th, 2019.
