John Hoyt Farmer graduated with a bachelor's in physical education and a master's in education, and was noted to be a true all-around athlete.

Hoyt was a member of Alpha Lambda Tau fraternity and the Blue Key Honorary Society. He was an intramurals coach, assistant football coach, and freshman baseball coach. Hoyt himself played basketball, baseball, and football. 

He passed away on March 22nd, 2013, at 100 years old.
