Francis Edward "Ed" Schwabe Sr. of Crisp County, Ga. was dedicated to every aspect of his community.

Schwabe, a quarterback, was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he was the head football coach for Swainsboro High School, Johnson County, and Candler County High Schools for many years. In 1950, he led the Swainsboro High School football team to an undefeated season. 
He owned and operated Payne-Schwabe Buick-Pontiac and was a member of the Buick Dealer Council. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, member/past chairman of the Administrative Board, and a member/past president of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club. He served on the Swainsboro City Recreation Authority and the Board of Directors with First Federal Savings and Loan.
 
Ed and his wife Rebecca had three sons: Francis Jr., Charles, and Jonathan. He passed away on November 24, 2003, at 88 years old and his honorary pallbearers were his former Swainsboro players plus Kiwanis Club members.
