Jean Faasse (now Markle) was a multi-sport athlete and pioneer of the women’s track and field program at Oglethorpe.
In her senior year, she set the school record for the 110 Hurdles and the 400m Relay with teammates Michelle Ponte, Dawn Roberts, and Kim Jackson. The 1992 women’s track team took runner up at the SCAC conference championship meet, just ten points behind the leading school. Markle and her 4x100 squad took third in the event while she placed in 8 other individual events, including runner-up in the 400m, 400m hurdles, and long jump. This was Oglethorpe’s first SCAC meet, and Markel was among the first all-conference honorees in program history. She was the track team captain and was named the team’s MVP in 1992.
Markle was a member of OU Ambassadors, the alcohol awareness committee, VISTA, Executive Round Table, the Stormy Petrel newspaper, the cross-country team, the soccer team, the basketball team, and was vice president of the pre-medical association.
Markle and her husband Doug have four daughters and one grandchild. She currently teaches at Horizon Christian Academy.
